Tech Tuesdays
The ICS Monthly Newsletter
Welcome to the December edition of Tech Tuesday! While we're not Santa and we cannot put gifts under your tree, we would like to spread a little holiday cheer.

In this edition, we have wrapped our newsletter in a little holiday fun. Inside, you will find our ICS Employee Survey, our Spotlight Employee and our "In the Community" article. Of course, Christmas would not be complete without those must have items. So, in this spirit, we are going to revisit one of the hottest new trends...IP Telephony!

ICS in the Community
When you hear the words Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent, you immediately know the topic is about the Boy Scouts of America. Scouting has touched almost everyone's life at one point or another. Today, it is a very important part of ICS senior programmer Kevin Hunter's life. Kevin is in his first year as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 153 Killen Church of Christ. He also serves as a Troop Committee Member for Troop 153 and a Committee Member for the Westmoreland District Committee which serves Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties. Kevin is the Webmaster for the Westmoreland District Committee, as well.

ICS Employee Survey
As the song says, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" It's Christmas, a time for family and friends, traditions, and children dreaming of Santa Claus and presents under the tree. Many things have changed over the years, but that one immutable symbol stays the same, the Christmas Tree. We asked ICS employees what they put on the top of their tree...or trees.

Where's the Grinch??
Every Who Down in Whoville Liked Tech Tuesday a lot...
But the Grinch, Who lived just north of Whoville, Did NOT!
Could it be that his webpage was an atrocious site...
Or perhaps, his router wasn't configured just right.
Whatever the reason, webpage or router...
One thing for certain - Tech Tuesday had him quite sour.

The Grinch has hidden himself in our newsletter and we need your help to find him. Find the Grinch and email Grinch@indcomputer.com and tell us where he is hiding. All correct responses will be put in a drawing for a 4GB Flash Drive, which will be held on Friday, December 14th. Good Luck!

IP Telephony by Melanie Agee

In our quest to enter the IP (Internet Protocol) Telephony marketplace, ICS has discovered that many of our customers truly do not understand this relatively new technology and therefore have difficulty understanding the benefits it can bring to their business. In our newsletter in October we featured an article, VOIP and it's Benefits, and we felt it would be a good idea to do a follow up. The following not only explains the technology, but also gives some real world examples of how IP telephony can benefit your business.

  • What is IP Telephony and will it replace your existing phone service provider?
IP Telephony allows your phone calls to share your data network. You will continue to have your local and long distance phone service provider and these lines will plug into the IP phone system just as they do your standard PBX phone system. Since the phone calls are sharing the network, they will also use the same cable as your desktop computer. BIG BENEFIT: You only need one Ethernet cable running to each office.

  • Is IP Telephony expensive?
The initial purchase of an IP phone system may cost more than a standard PBX phone system, but you must focus on Total Cost of Ownership. In the long run, IP Telephony should cost you less than your standard phone system and there are several reasons for this. The first is that when you join your voice and data networks together you now only have one network to maintain. BIG BENEFIT: ICS can manage your entire network giving you one contact for everything.

Secondly, IP Phone Systems lower your TCO by providing a system that is user friendly enough for the customer to make many changes in the phone system themselves, such as, adding new users, deleting old ones.
BIG BENEFIT: No more $ 75.00 service calls to add or delete a phone.
Now that you see that IP Telephony could save you money in the long run and that it is nothing more than voice and data sharing a single line - yes, there is a little more to it than that, but that's why we have ICS techs - let's talk about how this benefits you and all the new and exciting things you will be able to do.
